Sentence:

A group of words which makes complete sense is called a sentence.


Examples:

Humpty dumpty sat on a wall.

Where do you live?

Be quiet.

How cold the night is!

 

 

 

Kinds of sentences:

1. Declarative / Assertive sentence

2. Interrogative sentence

3. Imperative sentence

4. Exclamatory sentence

 

 

1. Declarative / Assertive sentence:

A sentence that makes a statement or assertion is called a declarative or assertive sentence.

Examples:

Humpty dumpty sat on a wall.

 

 

2. Interrogative sentence:

A sentence that asks a question is called an interrogative sentence.

Examples:

Where do you live?

 

 

 

3. Imperative sentence:

A sentence that expresses a command or an entreaty is called an imperative sentence.

Examples:

Be quiet.

Have mercy upon us.

 

 

4. Exclamatory sentence:

A sentence that expresses strong feeling is called an exclamatory sentence.

Examples:

How cold the night is!
